My name is LC and I’m an Australia-based travel writer and photographer.

While Birdgehls is primarily a travel blog, I use Substack to send out my monthly missives.

What is Birdgehls?

Birdgehls is a ten year old travel website. I’ve written from the Middle East, London and many places around the world, but now primarily post from Victoria, Australia.

I’ve long been passionate about slow travel, with Birdgehls being one of the first Australian travel blogs to focus on travelling responsibly.

Along with slow travel tips, you’ll find posts about books, as reading is my other main hobby.

A content creator by trade, I’ve been blogging and freelance writing online for around ten years. Over this time, social media and SEO has changed the way we find and consume media, and from a writing perspective, the way we craft it – in a way that certainly hurts my soul.

In short, I miss the old days of blogging, of having an engaged audience who cared what you were putting out and followed you simply because they like the way you structure words together in a sentence.

A platform like Substack offers up a chance to create content that is full of personality, rather than the content-farm like stuff we see coming out of websites nowadays – without throwing up recent AI advances into the equation. Have the people working on this not seen Terminator, I ask?!
